The New Mastersounds Release “Fast Man” [Listen]

The New Mastersounds have shared their new recording of “Fast Man”, a horn-driven, high-energy funk tune originally written and released by The PC’s Ltd as an A-side single titled “Fast Man (Booty Man)” back in 1972.

Released by the band on New Year’s Day via Color Red, the 2:36-minute track delivers an energizing punch of funk-meets-retro-soul from start to finish. The song should sound familiar to longtime fans of the band, as it has been a setlist staple during their live performances over the years, and was first recorded for their 2001 studio debut, Keb Darge Presents: The New Mastersounds, though it never made the final tracklist.

As guitarist Eddie Roberts explains,

“Fast Man” was recorded as part of the first NMS album. However, it didn’t make it to the album that was originally released 20 years ago (2001). This was actually because shortly after recording it, we became embarrassed by the break with us shouting out ‘M.A.S.T.E.R. We’re The Mastersounds’, as we thought people would say ‘who the hell are they anyway?’. 21 years later, it seems pretty funny that that’s what stopped it making the cut, so for the re-master and re-press of our first album we decided to include it, and also release it digitally as a single for the first time ever!
