Watch Widespread Panic Cover ‘Knocking ‘Round The Zoo’ At 25th Anniversary Run In 2011

Widespread Panic shared video of James Taylor’s “Knocking ‘Round The Zoo.” The clip comes from Panic’s February 10, 2011 concert at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia during their 25th anniversary run.

WSP has steadily rolled out video from their quarter century celebration over the past few weeks. The band previously shared footage of “Greta,” “Imitation Leather Shoes” and “Blight.” Late Panic collaborator Vic Chesnutt penned the latter and the band shared a tribute to Chesnutt from the run as well.

The February 10 concert kicked off Panic’s 25th anniversary run — two nights in the band’s hometown of Athens as well as a show in Atlanta — which saw the group performing a number of songs from their early repertoire. The first night of the run got underway with Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” (first time played since November 1988) and also saw a bust out of the Grateful Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain” (last time played October 1988 and containing the original Robert Hunter lyrics, as per Everyday Companion).

James Taylor’s “Knocking ‘Round The Zoo” is also one of Panic’s early covers — debuted in April 1986, the same year the band was founded — but remained in a fairly steady rotation up until the last decade when the plays began to taper off and the song became something of a rarity. WSP last played the tune on Halloween 2019. The February 10, 2011 performance of the song came as the second set closer.
