Next week, the non-profit organization Folk Alliance International will host its massive Folk Unlocked virtual festival which will treat concert-hungry fans to 800+ hours of performances from 1,000+ artists across all 50 U.S. states and over 30 additional countries worldwide stretched out over five days from February 22nd-26th.
The five-day festival will offer “Spotlight” and “Unlocked” artist showcases, along with a “Global Music Marathon” closing event highlighting various participating artists paired with counterparts from other countries. Once performed, the showcases will remain available for fans to re-watch online for a limited time.
Participating artists to take part in Folk Unlocked include Los Lobos, Jade Bird, Zydeco artist Terrance Simien, blues musician Cedric Burnside (son of RL Burnside), Sawyer Fredericks, Keb Mo, Jim Lauderdale, all-female mariachi band Flor de Toloache, The McCrary Sisters, Katie Pruitt, The War and Treaty, Dedicated Men of Zion, Australian Indigenous performer Emily Wurramara, Karan Casey, Steve Poltz, Brazilian artist Jacqueline Marissol Mwaba, Seratones, and more.
Proceeds raised throughout next week’s virtual event will go to benefit FAI’s Village Fund for COVID relief, which offers grants to struggling musicians and folk music workers affected by the ongoing pandemic. Fans can tune in to the week-long festival by donating $25 to The Village Fund, which represents a 5% contribution towards each $500 grant given to artists.
“We’re thrilled with the depth and diversity of the musical lineup,” FAI executive director Aengus Finnan added in a press statement. “This event won’t just be close to home, it will literally be in your home, but what is clear is that it is absolutely far from ordinary.”
