Listen To The Band Perform ‘The Weight’ ‘Live At Royal Albert Hall, June 1971’

Next Friday, February 12, Capitol/UMe will reissue The Band‘s 1970 album, Stage Fright, as Stage Fright 50th Anniversary Edition. The box set, CD and digital versions feature the previously unreleased live album Live At Royal Albert Hall, June 1971 which Rolling Stone previewed by premiering “The Weight” from The Band’s performance at Royal Albert Hall in London.

Stage Fright was The Band’s third album. Guitarist Robbie Robertson oversaw the production of Stage Fright 50th Anniversary Edition, which features the LP presented in the sequence he originally planned. Bob Clearmountain provided a new stereo mix from the original multi-track masters.

The CD and digital releases also include alternate mixes and hotel room recordings in addition to the 2020 Stage Fright mix and Live At Royal Albert Hall, June 1971. A Super Deluxe Box Set adds all the tracks on Blu-ray as well as CDs of the same material, 180-gram vinyl featuring the main album with the new stereo mix and more goodies housed in packaging with a photo booklet and liner notes.

The Band originally released “The Weight” on their 1968 debut studio album, Music From Big Pink. The group’s June 1971 performance at Royal Albert Hall was their first visit to the historic venue since a gig backing Bob Dylan in 1966 as part of a tour that saw audiences express frustration with Dylan going electric. “Everybody was on their game. And it was such a great relief to come back to Albert Hall from the last experience of playing with Bob there, [Laughs]” Robertson told Rolling Stone of The Band’s return to Royal Albert Hall. “When we played with Bob, we were on a ridiculous schedule on tour. I’m amazed that Bob, you know, could even pull it off physically. This time, the crowd was just over the top on enthusiasm and we were trying to give it back to them.”
