Marilyn Manson Responds To Abuse Allegations, Gets Dropped From TV Shows

Marilyn Manson has issued a response to allegations from actress Evan Rachel Wood and several other women who have recently accused him of abuse. In light of the allegations, the shock-rocker has also been pulled from two TV shows in which he made appearances on Starz and AMC.

In a statement posted to Instagram late on Monday, Manson—born Brian Warner—said,

Obviously, my life and my art have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how — and why — others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.

In the fallout of Wood’s allegations on Monday, Manson has been dismissed from the Starz original American Gods as well as the AMC anthology series Creepshow. In a statement to Deadline, a spokesperson for Starz indicated that Manson’s appearance in the upcoming American Gods as John Wengren, the lead singer of Viking death metal bland Blood Death, will be removed from the episode entirely. As for AMC, a representative stated that Manson’s segment on Creepshow‘s second season, which has yet to air, will be replaced.

This latest development comes after Manson’s label, Loma Vista Recordings, dropped him on Monday only hours after Wood made her allegations public. In an Instagram post made on Monday, Wood revealed Manson as her abuser who “started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years.”

Wood spoke about her abuse publicly before a House Judiciary Subcommittee in 2018 in an effort to get the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Bill of Rights passed in all 50 states but had never before named her abuser until yesterday.

Since levying abuse allegations against Manson on Monday, Wood has also posted a letter from California Senator Susan Rubio urging FBI Director Christopher Wray to open an investigation into the musician in light of the multiple women who have come forward. Rubio noted, “Individuals who engage in this kind of abuse are often serial offenders. If these allegations are true, and no investigation is undertaken, we will be failing the victims and allowing a possible perpetrator to continue abusing unsuspecting victims. That must not be allowed to happen.”
