Bob Weir & Expanded Wolf Bros Lineup Perform St. Patrick’s Day Livestream Concert

98

On Wednesday, Grateful Dead/Dead & Company guitarist Bob Weir performed a livestream concert with an expanded Bob Weir and Wolf Bros lineup at his TRI Studios facility to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Weir and his ensemble included two Wolf Bros debuts into last night’s show with rapper Berner joining the group for one of them.

Bobby was backed by bassist Don Was, drummer Jay Lane, pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti for two sets and the encore last night. The livestream concert also featured The Wolf Pack horn and string section contributing at various points of the evening.

The Wolfpack was on hand for the “Shakedown Street” opener as well as the “Weather Report Suite” > “Let It Grow” suite that followed. Weir then went with the five-piece lineup for the traditional folk songs “Peggy-O” and “Whiskey In The Jar,” each of which have roots in Irish music. Last night marked the first time Bobby performed “Whiskey In The Jar” since Furthur played the tune one decade earlier during their St. Patrick’s Day concert in 2011.

Wednesday’s first set continued with the five-piece lineup performing “Black-Throated Wind.” Then, Berner emerged to freestyle on the Wolf Bros’ first ever “Liberty.” The San Francisco-based rapper/entrepreneur referenced both St. Patrick’s Day and the pandemic during his verses. From there, The Wolf Pack returned to augment the quintet on the set-closing “Lost Sailor” > “Saint Of Circumstance.”

Bob, Jeff, Don, Jay and Greg began last night’s second set with a cover of Kris Kristofferson’s “Me & Bobby McGee.” The Wolf Pack then came back for a take on the RatDog original “Ashes & Glass” that featured Roy Hamilton’s “Don’t Let Go” within. Next, the five-piece presented “Estimated Prophet” before The Wolf Back reemerged for the rest of the show. An expansive “Bird Song” was followed by “Scarlet Begonias.” Then, the group delivered “Morning Dew” and ended the frame with “Not Fade Away.” For the encore, the full ensemble went with “U.S. Blues.”

FANS.Live broadcasted Wednesday’s livestream concert. The full performance can be viewed on-demand through Sunday night. Watch the openers from both sets and “Liberty” below:
