John Lennon‘s debut solo album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, which was first released via Apple Records in December 1970, will receive an Ultimate Collection box set reissue due out on April 16th on Capitol/UMe.

Announced last week, the reissue will arrive on 1CD, 2CD, 2LP, digital, or the super deluxe box set edition which will come with six CDs containing over six hours of audio and 102 new stereo mixes pulled from the original master tapes. The box set edition will also come with two Blu-ray audio discs containing 11+ hours of Hi-Res audio, a 132-page hardcover book containing rare photos and notes from the era, a “War Is Over!” poster, and two postcards. Included in the hours of remixed audio are recording outtakes, demo recordings, studio jam sessions, various mixes, and a full live recording session of Yoko Ono’s Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band companion album (more than three times the length of the original album).

In addition to the original tracklisting, the reissue will also include Lennon’s post-Beatles singles “Give Peace A Chance”, “Cold Turkey”, and “Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)”.

The album was produced and supervised by Yoko Ono Lennon alongside Paul Hicks, Rob Stevens, and Sam Gannon.

Recorded in 1970 just after the breakup of The Beatles, the rock-meets-Avant-pop album featured playing by the Plastic Ono Band, comprised of Ringo Starr, Klaus Voormann, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, and Alan White (along with producer Phil Spector).

“With the Plastic Ono Band albums, John and I liked the idea of this really raw, basic, truthful reality that we were going to be giving to the world,” Yoko Ono Lennon said in a statement about the album. “We were influencing other artists, giving them courage, giving dignity to a certain style of vulnerability and strength that was not accepted in society at the time. It was a revolution for a Beatle to say, ‘Listen: I’m human, I’m real.’ It took a lot of courage for him to do it.”
