John Mayer Launches TikTok Channel, Shares ‘Neon’ Demo & Talks Dead And Company Plans

Count John Mayer among the users of popular quick-bite video service TikTok. The Dead & Company guitarist posted his first clip on Monday and on Tuesday shared a tip for performing his original “Neon” on TikTok. In other Mayer news, he discussed Dead & Company’s touring plans during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy.

“How do use tik tok ## how do you use tik tok google.con how to use tik tok,” read a note accompanying Mayer’s TikTok debut. Many comments in response to the clip took John to task over the relationship with Taylor Swift. The guitarist seemed to address the situation in his second TikTok video, which featured the text, “POV: You’re berating me and I’m hearing you out.”

Mayer’s third video, featuring John singing the words, “That was weird day, that was a real weird day,” may also allude to the backlash from Taylor Swift fans. Yet, yesterday, the guitarist gained 2.5 million videos for his “Neon” demo.

John Mayer wrote “Neon” with Clay Cook and included a studio version on his debut album, 2001’s Room For Squares. “Neon” is among the songs Mayer has played most in concert as per Setlist.FM.

“I’m going to show you a tip on how to play my song ‘Neon,’” Mayer stated in the video. “Now, it’s a difficult song but like all songs on the guitar, they’re easier than it sounds.

“The secret lies in the right hand, it’s the thumb and it’s the index finger and they’re sort of working like a drum set,” the guitarist added. “What it isn’t is every note for itself. It’s one smooth roll. You can change the groove just by changing the percussive feel in the right hand. Hope that helps!”

John Mayer currently has over 274K followers on TikTok. Mayer recently appeared on Radio Andy with his good friend Andy Cohen. The guitarist was asked about his plans for 2021. “It seems to me people are just discussing 2022,” John revealed. Andy then clarified whether he was talking about Dead & Company. “Dead & Co, there’s a little more optimism,” Mayer said. “Look, there’s no reason to sort of be veiled about. If we can [tour] we definitely will. I don’t think anybody wants to put up another tour and take it down.” He went on to explain, “It starts looking like ’22 is the only way you can really start booking stuff and being sure that you wouldn’t have to write that Instagram post that goes, ‘Guys, we really talked this over …’”
