Lotus Announces New Album, ‘Citrus’, Shares Lead Single, “Phantom Tooth” [Listen]

Lotus has announced details for the band’s latest studio album, Citrus, and offered fans a preview with the first single, “Phantom Tooth”. Slated for independent release on April 6th, the album serves as a follow-up to 2020’s Free Swim.

Recorded at Spice House Sound in the band’s native Philadelphia, the new seven-track offering emerged from the same sessions as Free Swim.

Citrus is the chill-out session to the Free Swim pool party,” bassist/producer Jesse Miller explains in a press release. “The music is more downtempo, drawing from 70s space-funk, rock and West African music. We’ve never played these songs live before, but I think they will feel like old favorites.”

Fans get their first taste of that chill-out session with “Phantom Tooth”, out on Bandcamp today. The song sees the instrumental quintet further exploring its interest in 1970s R&B/funk grooves. Miller’s bass serves as the center of the universe, setting the stage for punctuating guitar riffs. The song comes to life from there with dominating synths as Miller switches instruments to keys.
