Seattle’s professional soccer team Sounders FC have revealed their new game jerseys for the 2021–2022 season which are inspired by one of the Emerald City’s most recognizable hometown rock heroes, Jimi Hendrix.
Revealed on Thursday, the team’s “Jimi Hendrix Kit” showcases a psychedelia-inspired purple-and-black swirl design, with Jimi’s signature printed onto the bottom of the shirt and handwritten lyrics from “Straight Ahead” sewn onto the inside of the neck opening.

A statement shared to the team’s website reads,
A powerful Sounders Matchday tradition, Jimi Hendrix’s iconic rendition of “All Along The Watchtower” blares throughout the stadium prior to kickoff. It’s a rallying cry rooted in the fabric of our city. Jimi IS Seattle. This jersey, like Jimi, shatters norms and honors one of Seattle’s greats.
Jimi Hendrix’s life and music remain timeless as he continues to unite us through his unique style and creative expression. His legacy is eternally linked to the city that molded him. His Sound is our Sound. Each note provides a glimpse into the unparalleled genius that forever altered the course of music.
Sounders FC also announced they will donate proceeds from the first 30 days of Jimi Hendrix kit sales to local nonprofit organizations including Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture, Northwest African American Museum, RAVE Foundation, and Tacoma Public Schools Indian Education Program.
