The California Honeydrops Announce Covers Album & Share James Taylor’s ‘Fire And Rain’ Single

85

The California Honeydrops announced a covers album, Covers from the Cave, set for a track by track release every two-weeks in the coming months via Tubtone Records. Today, the Bay Area-based band shared James Taylor’s “Fire And Rain” as the second single from the LP.

Covers from the Cave began as a pandemic video series with the band releasing The Drifters’ 1964 classic “Under The Boardwalk,” which is the opening track on the LP. The album also includes renditions of tunes by the Grateful Dead, John Prine, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Dr. John and more along with Taylor’s “Fire And Rain” (tracklist below).

California Honeydrops co-founder and frontman Lech Wierzynski spoke about the selection of “Fire And Rain” in a statement. Read his words below:

Believe it or not, I just started listening to James Taylor this winter. Though I love many of his tunes, lyrically I immediately resonated with this song. I only found out later that it was one of his most famous and most covered—and, according to the internet, one of his least favorite to play… One of the upsides of these last strange months has been exploring slower and sadder songs that I wouldn’t get to play on those wild and sweaty nights with the Honeydrops. Thanks James Taylor for this classic.
