Tom Petty ‘Wildflowers’ Alternate Recordings To Receive Stand-Alone Release [Video]

72

Last year, Warner Records released a massive reissue of Tom Petty‘s 1994 Wildflowers studio album. Entitled, Wildflowers & All The Rest, the box set reissue included 70 tracks of never-before-heard alternate recordings and demos from Petty’s Wildflowers sessions spread out over 9LPs.

Now, 16 of the alternate version recordings which were included in the reissue will receive their own stand-alone release as Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions), due out April 16 on Warner Records. The album will arrive on limited edition gold vinyl, in addition to black vinyl, CD, and digital formats (for the first time) a few weeks after the initial release on May 7th.

A statement on the forthcoming album with the announcement reads,

‘Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions)’ features 16 studio recordings of alternate takes, long cuts and jam versions of ‘Wildflowers’ songs as Tom, band members and co-producer Rick Rubin worked to finalize the album in 1994. The release offers fans further deep access into the writing and recording of Wildflowers, as well as realizing the full vision of the project as Tom had always intended.

Warner Records and the Tom Petty estate have also shared a new video for “You Saw Me Comin’” – a previously unreleased song recorded in 1992 – to go with last week’s announcement.

“There’s this kind of longing in the song, in the way that he wrote the chord structure, the melody and the lyrics,” Heartbreakers pianist Benmont Tench added in a statement of the newly-shared recording. “It’s wistful, and it would have been the perfect way to end the disc.”
