Much like hangovers and church, it just isn’t a Sunday without Todd Snider‘s The Get Together livestream. Ahead of this week’s episode, Reverand Snider—formerly of the First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder—shared a highlight of the previous week’s livestream (episode nine for those counting) featuring his cover of “The Road Goes On Forever” by Robert Earl Keen.

Though many jam-inclined listeners may associate the song’s title with The Allman Brothers Band and their hit song “Midnight Rider”, this tune is an original which appeared on Keen’s 1989 album West Textures. Ahead of the cover, Snider highlights the musician as one of his favorite singer-songwriters. However, Snider felt funny telling audiences about Keen as “everybody who knows who I am knows who he is.” After a quick comparison to Willie Nelson, it was off into Keen’s layered world of Sherry the waitress, Sonny, and a wild night down on Main Street.

Between livestreams, Snider is gearing up for the release of his 19th studio album, First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder. Lifted from the former title of his livestream series—which has gone by several monickers including What It Is—the concept album features Snider’s trademark jabs at organized religion while also eulogizing lost friends. The album contains tributes to the folk troubadour’s late idols-turned-friends John PrineJerry Jeff Walker, and more. First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder is out on April 23rd via Aimless Records/Thirty Tigers.
