Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt & Glenn Kotche Debut New Song On ‘The Tweedy Show’

65

Wilco’s John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche and Jeff Tweedy performed together on Monday’s episode of The Tweedy Show, which streamed live on Instagram from Tweedy’s home in Chicago. Tweedy explained Stirratt and Kotche are in town to record new Wilco material at the band’s The Loft recording space and ended the session by debuting a new song tentatively titled “Hints.”

With Stirratt on bass, Kotche on drums and Tweedy on acoustic guitar, the trio began with the early Wilco original “I Must Be High.” Stirratt then led a cover of Gene Clark’s “Tried So Hard.” Next came “Country Disappeared” from 2009’s Wilco (The Album) and “Everyone Hides” from 2019’s Ode To Joy. Tweedy switched to electric guitar for “Jesus Etc.” from 2002’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

Picking again from Wilco (The Album), Jeff went back to acoustic for “You And I.” The same setup continued with “Candyfloss” and Jeff’s son Spencer Tweedy adding backing vocals to the song off Summerteeth, which came out on this date 22 years ago.

The almost-Wilco performance came close to an end with “I Got You (At The End Of The Century)” from Being There and a cover of Bill Fay’s “Be Not So Fearful.” The trio then debuted the new song that Jeff said was currently being called “Hints.”

The standard Tweedy Show closing credit song, Roger Miller’s “Reincarnation” brought the 156th episode of the livestream series to an end. Watch the session via the @stuffinourhouse Instagram account run by Tweedy’s wife Susan Miller Tweedy below:
