Last month saw Dopapod return to the stage for the first time in over a year with a pair of concerts at the Ardmore Music Hall on March 19th and 20th. The shows welcomed an extremely limited capacity audience to the Ardmore, PA venue as the only way fans could score tickets was through a raffle or silent auction. The first of two nights saw Dopapod stitch together the originals “Turn By Turn” and “Freight Train” into a half-hour improvisational behemoth, video of which the band shared on Monday.
Coming in at the midway point of what would prove to be a six-song first set, the eerie, ambient tones of “Turn By Turn” came as the calm before the storm to come. Playing from the cozy Ardmore stage, the interpersonal communication between the band was even sharper. With the band members enjoying their return to the stage for the first time since the previous March, it was smiles all around as guitarist Rob Compa and keyboardist Eli Winderman led the group through the verses.

A relaxed improvisation soon followed that saw a tight rhythmic breakdown courtesy of drummer Neal “Fro” Evans and bassist Chuck Jones. Before long, however, the band began to gradually pick up steam before a full-fledged “Freight Train” pulled into station. The hard-hitting instrumental composition sent the signal throughout the Ardmore and across the internet airwaves to streamers across the country that Dopapod was back. Whether it be after a self-imposed hiatus in 2018 or a pandemic-induced absence in 2020, Dopapod has proved time and again that—no matter how long they are away or why—they will continue to come back harder and stronger than ever before.
