Goose Performs At Suwannee Rising 2021

83

Goose performed for the second night of the Suwannee Rising festival on Friday taking place at Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. As co-headliners along with Lettuce, the Connecticut quintet delivered two sets for the Florida festival audience.

Goose — guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach, bassist Trevor Weekz, drummer Ben Atkind and percussionist Jeff Arevalo — kicked off set one with “Lead The Way,” which appears on the band’s 2016 debut album, Moon Cabin. More staples followed in “Doc Brown,” “Jive II” and “Time To Flee.” Goose then revived their cover of Tom Wait’s “Gun Street Girl,” which they debuted in March 2020 during their agöosetic set. Moon Cabin opener “Turned Clouds” — which saw Anspach teasing “Hot Tea” — came next ahead of “All I Need” and set closer “Jive Lee.”

The second set got underway with “Wysteria Lane” followed by Spoon’s “Inside Out.” The band then offered up “Flodown,” which is a road tested tune that will appear on their upcoming studio album, Shenanigans Nite Club. During “Flodown,” Rick fit in teases of the “River Lullaby” theme from the 1998 animated film, The Prince of Egypt. The band then returned to Moon Cabin with “Arcadia” and “Rosewood Heart.” Goose’s take on Sergio Mendes’ “Mas Que Nada” came next ahead of “Slow Ready.” The band then delivered “The Empress Of Organos,” a song Goose has played a handful of times but which dates back to Mitarotonda, Weekz and Atkind’s previous band, Vasudo.
