Lawsuit Alleges Bassnectar Sexually Abused Minors

91

A lawsuit was filed against Bassnectar (Lorin Ashton) on Monday accusing the DJ of sexually abusing two women when they were minors, as Rolling Stone and other outlets reported. The suit also alleges Ashton engaged in human trafficking and manufacturing and possessing child pornography. Ashton announced an indefinite hiatus last July after a number of allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him.

Amorphous Music, Bassnectar Touring, Redlight Management, C3 Presents and Interactive Giving Fund are named as co-defendants on the human trafficking accusations. The suit was filed by Philadelphia attorneys Brian Kent, Stewart Ryan and Alexandria MacMaster of Laffey, Bucci & Kent, LLP and Nashville attorney Phillip Miller of Miller Law Offices.

“The lawsuit seeks to hold Bassnectar and those corporations that support him responsible for years of grooming, abuse, and trafficking,” reads part of a press release from the attorneys. “In June 2020, an Instagram account was created titled @evidenceagainstbassnectar where dozens of young and underage women detailed the ways in which they were victimized by Bassnectar. Other survivors of abuse at the hands of Bassnectar and these corporations are encouraged to come forward and have their voices heard.”

Rolling Stone’s report states the accusers are aiming for a jury trial and damages “in an amount which will effectively prevent other similarly caused acts and adequately reflect the enormity of the Defendants’ wrong and injuries to the Plaintiffs.”

“We have seen a true reckoning in recent years of powerful individuals and institutions finally being held to account for years of sexual abuse against adults and minors,” stated attorney Brian Kent. “But we have only begun to scratch the surface of how these influential figures and entities can go on for years committing abuses without being held responsible. This lawsuit is about seeking justice not just against Bassnectar but against the corporations that cooperate in and help facilitate the abuses he is alleged to have committed.”

Ashton’s attorney, Mitchell Schuster, denied the accusations on behalf of his client, issuing a statement to Rolling Stone that reads, “These outrageous claims — which were clearly designed for the media, rather than for the courts — are completely without merit, and we eagerly look forward to proving so.”
