Margo Price Becomes First Female Artist Named To Farm Aid’s Board Of Directors

73

Margo Price made history on Thursday as she became the first female artist to join the Farm Aid Board of Directors. The acclaimed singer-songwriter joins fellow musicians Willie NelsonNeil YoungJohn MellencampDave Matthews, and six industry professionals on the board.

Price’s addition was the result of a unanimous vote by the governing body, as Farm Aid continues its mission to build a “vibrant, family-centered system of agriculture in America.” Price also becomes just the second musician to join the Farm Aid board after Matthews’ appointment in 2001, after Nelson, Young, and Mellencamp started the organization in 1985.

The historical significance of this occasion aside, Price’s acceptance to the highest run of the Farm Aid structure strikes a personal note.

“It is always a thrill to perform alongside my heroes on the Farm Aid stage, and it is one of the greatest honors of my life to become a member of the Farm Aid board,” Price said. “It’s been a dream of mine to help family farmers and communities across America ever since my family lost their farm in the fall of 1984 – a year before the first Farm Aid concert. I hope to use my voice to shine light on the issues of climate change, our health and the health of our soil and water, and, most importantly, food justice.”

Price’s history with Farm Aid stretches back to 2016 when she took the stage for the first time at the festival. Since then, she hasn’t missed a single gathering. In addition to her work with the festival, Price will also focus her efforts toward helping the organization rally against corporate consolidation of agriculture in the United States, fighting to keep families farming across the country.
