Melbourne Musician Daphne Camf Has Passed Away

65

Melbourne musician and member of a string of beloved underground acts Daphne Camf has passed away.

As reported by NME, the news of Camf’s passing was confirmed via collaborator Simona Castricum’s record label Trans-Brunswick Express.

“It’s with great sadness we announce the death of our dear friend Daphne Camf over the Easter Weekend. We are all devastated and processing heartbreak and grief,” a statement posted on the label’s Instagram read.

“We send our love and support to all of Daphne’s family, friends and community.”

The statement went on to Camf’s colossal list of accomplishments, as a member of bands like SaD, NO ZU, Rat Vs Possum, GAY and Camf’s solo work as Hadrian Valentine.

“To so many in Melbourne’s underground community Daphne was a true and loving friend. Kind, wise, spiritual, poetic and inspiring, Daphne reflected upon the wry and dark ironies between life and death, of love and pain,” the statement continued.

It then went on to quote lyrics from SaD’s debut single ‘The Poetics Of Antiquity’, “dream of Land’s End, my soul in flight, the clay that forms you, is filled with light.

In a separate statement via SaD’s Instagram, Castricum gave a beautiful tribute to “my dearest friend.”

“I love you Daphne. I miss you,” Castricum wrote.

“‘Saturn Rules The Material World’ (SaD’s debut album) remains an enigma. Daphne lives on through her music, through her fragrances. Our performances on stage, our rehearsals I will treasure and be forever grateful. Our little world. Gone, but never forgotten.”

SaD were set to play two shows in Melbourne later this month.
