Record Store Day Announces Full List Of Releases For 2021 “Drops” Dates

The Allman Brothers Band The Last Note — Recorded live on October 17th, 1971 at Painters Mill Music Fair in Owings Mill, MD, this live album captures Duane Allman‘s final live performance with the band he helped found, occurring just 12 days before his fatal motorcycle crash in Macon, GA. The eight-song concert is also supplemented with the bonus track “Stormy Monday”, from Austin, TX 1971. The Last Note is pressed on limited-edition black and white swirl vinyl and is limited to 9,000 copies. It is available on July 17th.

Fred Armisen TBC — This three-track instrumental EP from actor, musician, and comedian Fred Armisen—who will also serve as this year’s RSD Ambassador—was recorded and produced by Ty Segall (Fuzz) at his Los Angeles studio. The vinyl comes with three songs on one side, and a custom artwork etching on the flip side and is limited to 1,000 copies. It is available on July 17th.

Beastie Boys Aglio E Olio — The Beasties’ long out-of-print hardcore EP Aglio E Olio received new life in September 2020 when surviving members Ad-Rock and Mike D shared it online for the first time since its initial release in 1995. The original 11-minute EP also features Suicidal Tendencies drummer Amery “AWOL” Smith, who had only come to the studio to help the band set up but ended up sticking around. For the limited edition vinyl release, “Soba Violence” and a rare cover of The Doors‘ “Light My Fire” have been included on the 180-gram clear vinyl, limited to 11,000 copies. It is available on June 12th.

Canned Heat Living The Blues — The American blues band’s 1968 album has been long out of print and arrives as a French import. Featuring the band’s seminal hit “Going Up The Country”, Living The Blues was one of the first double albums to place well on the album charts. Label LMLR has gone to great lengths to recreate the original physical release, including an “OBI strip on the gatefold album jacket with two pockets, featuring the original US printed inner sleeves, original record labels, and one yellow and one pink translucent LPs.” The album is limited to 2,500 copies and is available on July 17th.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Déjà vu Alternates — “Déjà Vu Alternates from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young is a recreation of their immensely popular second album, Déjà Vu, featuring alternate versions of songs which appeared on the original album.  The iconic album which featured “Teach Your Children,” “Woodstock,” “Our House” and “Helpless” will showcase these alternate versions on vinyl for the first time.  It will also feature a cover that mirrors the original album with an alternate photo from the cover shoot. Pressed on 180g black vinyl, exclusively for RSD Drops 2021. Strictly Limited to 10,000 copies worldwide.” It is available on July 17th.

Miles Davis CHAMPIONS – Rare Miles from the Complete Jack Johnson Sessions — “Miles Davis had a deep love and respect for boxing, seeing deep parallels between “the sweet science” and his own relationship with music. One of Miles’ favorites of his own recordings was the 1971 soundtrack to the Bill Cayton documentary about Jack Johnson, and he was inspired by the political and racial subtext of the legendary boxer’s saga.  Culled from the celebrated expanded project The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions released in 2003, and name-checking a number of pugilistic legends (“Ali,” “Sugar Ray,” “Duran,” “Johnny Bratton”), these funk-infused recordings rock harder than anything else that Miles put to tape. Featuring a sterling line-up of musicians (Wayne Shorter, John McLaughlin, Dave Holland, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, Billy Cobham) and a legendary cover photo of Miles in the ring captured by Jim Marshall, the release finds this music issued on vinyl (in brilliant yellow), for general release, for the first time ever.” Limited to 7,500 copies, it is available on July 17th.

Dr. John, The Night Tripper The Sun, Moon & Herbs Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition — “Deluxe and limited 50th anniversary edition of Dr. John’s fourth studio album for Atco Records. Three LP expanded release with deluxe packaging and new liner notes featuring over 70 minutes of previously unreleased material on two discs, recorded during the 1971 album sessions and making a physical debut for RSD Drops. Only one track from the bonus material was previously available on the limited Run Out Groove vinyl release: Dr. John: Professor Bizarre’s Funknology.” Available on July 17th, it is limited to 3,000 copies.

Steve Earle/Justin Townes Earle The Saint of Lost Causes — “In the winter of 2021, Steve Earle & The Dukes released J.T.,  an eleven-song recording that consists of ten Justin Townes Earle songs and one Steve Earle original. The album was released to critical acclaim and Steve Earle’s proceeds from the record are continually being directed to a trust for his granddaughter, Etta (Justin’s daughter). In honor of Justin Townes Earle and the record his father recorded, New West is proud to present a split 7″ featuring two versions of an indelible Justin’ Townes Earle song. The double A-side single features “The Saint Of Lost Causes.” as performed by Justin from his 2019 album of the same name as well as Steve Earle & The Dukes’ version from the  J.T. release.  This split 7” single will be pressed on yellow vinyl and limited to 3,500 copies worldwide.” It is available on June 12th.

The Flaming Lips The Soft Bulletin Companion — “The Soft Bulletin is one of the Flaming Lips’ most popular and best-selling albums. The Soft Bulletin Companion was originally available as a promo-only CD, hand-made by the Lips’ management, and given to media and radio as the original album grew in popularity around its original release. The compilation includes unreleased songs from the era, plus outtakes and early mixes, B-sides, international bonus tracks and stereo versions of Zaireeka tracks. This silver-colored, double LP comes to record stores first as part of RSD Drops.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 11,250 copies.

Aretha Franklin Oh Me Oh My: Aretha Live In Philly 1972 — “Oh Me Oh My: Aretha Live In Philly, 1972 is a shining example of the Queen of Soul at her best. The nearly hour-long performance – recorded live at the National Association Of Television & Radio Announcers Convention in Philadelphia, PA, USA, 1972 – features the first live performances of many of Aretha’s landmark hits.  The live recording took place shortly after the release of her Grammy Award winning studio album Young Gifted and Black and features the album’s two Top 10 (USA) singles, penned by Aretha, “Rock Steady” and “Day Dreaming”.  Plus, stunning covers woven into medleys of “I Never Loved A Man (The Way That I Love You) / I Say a Little Prayer”, “Bridge Over Troubled Water / We’ve Only Just Begun” and a glorious rendition of Aretha’s anthem “Respect”. Rory Gallagher Cleveland Calling Pt. 2 — “For RSD Drops 2021, Cleveland Calling PT. 2  is an unreleased radio session recovered from the depths of the Rory Gallagher archives. This recording features Rory and his band playing seven songs live in an empty Cleveland Agora venue for WNCR Radio. This release follows the RSD Drops 2020 release Cleveland Calling (#2 on the Billboard Blues chart) which was an acoustic session also recorded by WNCR during the same 1972 US tour.” Available on July 17th, it is limited to 2,500 copies.

Jerry Garcia Band Jerry Garcia Band — “Selling over 360,000 CDs since its release, the beloved self-titled album, Jerry Garcia Band, was the band’s first live release recorded in the spring and summer of 1990 at The Warfield in San Francisco. The iconic lineup features John Kahn, Melvin Seals, David Kemper, Gloria Jones, and Jacklyn LaBranch. In celebration of the album’s 30th anniversary, this RSD First 5xLP set is pressed on 180g vinyl in a textured paper wrapped, foil-stamped box and available in a limited edition of 7,500. Features new essays from Steven Hyden and Bill Walton.” It is available on July 17th.

Gorillaz G Collection —”This vinyl box set contains six Gorillaz studio albums from 2001 – 2020, including their current release “Song Machine, Season 1.”  This black vinyl box set will first be available for RSD Drops on July 17.” It is limited to 980 copies.

Grateful Dead Olympia Theatre, Paris, France 5/3/72 — “Available for the first time on vinyl is the complete OLYMPIA THEATRE, PARIS, FRANCE 5/3/72 show from the Grateful Dead’s legendary Europe ‘72 Tour. 6-LP, 180-Gram, Limited Edition of 10,000 worldwide.

Of the twenty-two performances on the famed Europe ’72 tour, the first night in Paris on 5/3/72 has always been considered one of the best. This is proven by the fact that four songs from this concert were included on the seventeen-track, seminal platinum-selling Europe ’72 album.

Featuring an “Other One” that comes out of Truckin’ and weaves in and out of other thematic and deep-space jams, as well as a side trip to Me And Bobby McGee, this is some of the Grateful Dead’s best, most inspired improvisation. The performance also includes five songs sung by Pigpen on what would be his final tour, including a massive Good Lovin’ which allows Pigpen to do what he does best: hold the audience in the palm of his hand while they hang on his every word. The Infamous Stringdusters Undercover — “The Infamous Stringdusters are releasing a compilation of cover songs never-before released on vinyl for RSD Drops 2021. These songs have been played live in many instances, and were at once point released individually, so this will be a treat to band fans and vinyl collectors alike. The Infamous Stringdusters won three awards at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards Ceremony in October 2007: Emerging Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for Fork in the Road (in a tie with J.D. Crowe & the New South’s album Lefty’s Old Guitar), and Song of the Year for the album’s title cut. The band was also nominated for 2011 Entertainer of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. In 2011, “Magic No. 9″ (from Things That Fly) was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance. Jefferson Airplane Acid, Incense and Balloons: RSD-Collected Gems From The Golden Era Of Flight — “Acid, Incense and Balloons: RSD-Collected Gems From The Golden Era Of Flight was created by the Record Store Day team and curated by record stores. The songs on this collection originally appeared on various Jefferson Airplane releases from 1966 to 1971. Some of the ‘gems’ here will be familiar, while others are obscure, live, or alternate versions of Jefferson Airplane songs. Wide stylistic swings, from sweet folk-pop to crushing psychedelic anthems, add up to a glorious portrait of the era, evoking Acid, Incense and Balloons.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 3,000 copies.

Elton John Regimental Sgt. Zippo — “Elton John’s fabled Regimental Sgt Zippo album that was slated for release in 1968, but ultimately shelved.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 7,000 copies.

Janis Joplin Pearl (Picture Disc) — “To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Janis Joplin’s Pearl, the album will be made available as a picture disc for the very first time. This exclusive for RSD Drops features the iconic cover portrait lensed by Barry Feinstein.
Pearl showcased some of Janis’ most familiar and best-loved performances including “Cry Baby,” her cover of Kris Kristofferson’s “Me and Bobby McGee,” and the off-the-cuff, a cappella “Mercedes Benz,” the last song she ever recorded.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 4,250 copies.

Motorhead St Valentine’s Day Massacre — “A 40th Anniversary limited edition picture disc edition of Motorhead and Girlschool’s raucous collaboration.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 4,000 copies.

Robert Palmer Sneaking Sally Through The Alley (180 Gram Emerald Green Audiophile Vinyl/Limited Edition) — “His dynamic debut album from 1974 on limited edition Emerald Green vinyl, features his smash hits “Sneaking Sally Through The Alley,” “Sailing Shoes” and stellar Allen Toussaint classic “From A Whisper To A Scream.” Musicians include Stevie Winwood, Lowell George, The Meters, Bernard Purdie, Richard Tee, Cornell Dupree and Simon Phillips.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 2,500 copies.

Johnny Paycheck Uncovered: The First Recordings — “Early in Johnny Paycheck’s pre-fame career, he toured as a sideman and bassist for George Jones in the early 1960s. At that time, he entered a recording studio in an attempt to secure a record deal as a solo artist. The recordings have been long forgotten and unheard until now. The Adams Brothers, who gained notoriety on Mike Judge’s Tales From The Tour Bus episode on Paycheck, produced the songs and worked as Paycheck’s band. These recordings showcase Paycheck’s considerable talent long before the music world took notice. Paycheck performs songs by some of country music’s most iconic songwriters such as Cowboy Jack Clement, Mel Tillis, and Bill Anderson. Pearl Jam Alive — “2021 marks the 30th anniversary of Pearl Jam’s iconic debut album Ten. “Alive” was the first single off the album and 30 years later it’s being reissued as both a 12” and a cassette single.

The 12” features the original promo single version of “Alive” plus three rare b-sides: “Wash”, “Dirty Frank” and the Beatles’ cover “I’ve Got A Feeling”, which is currently not available anywhere else. All four tracks are included on side A while side B contains an etching of the band’s Stick Man logo.” Available on July 17th, the vinyl is limited to 18,500 copies and the cassette to 6,300.

Tom Petty Angel Dream (Songs and Music from the Motion Picture She’s the One) — “Angel Dream is a special reimagining of the album She’s The One to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its original release. This also brings to a close the celebration of Tom Petty’s masterpiece Wildflowers, as most of the songs on this album were recorded during the same time period.  She’s The One included some songs that were left off the original Wildflowers album, recently included in the Wildflowers & All The Rest re-issue. To take the place of those songs, four previously unreleased songs have been added here – two Petty originals (“105 Degrees” and “One of Life’s Little Mysteries”), a cover of JJ Cale’s “Thirteen Days”, and the instrumental “French Disconnection”.  An extended version of “Supernatural Radio” is also included. John Prine Live At The Other End, December 1975 — “In December 1975, Grammy award-winning songwriter John Prine played three nights at The Other End (previously and now known as The Bitter End) in Greenwich Village, NYC. The acoustic performances featured some of his best-known songs such as “Angel From Montgomery” and “Hello In There”, from his first four studio albums: John Prine (1971), Diamonds In The Rough (1972), Sweet Revenge (1973) and Common Sense (1975). These rare and previously unreleased solo performances—comprising two full sets—will now be made available, pressed on 180g black vinyl, exclusively RSD Drops 2021. Rage Against The Machine The Battle of Mexico City — “The Battle Of Mexico City documents Rage Against The Machine’s legendary show at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes in 1999. This was the band’s first ever show in Mexico and part of their Battle Of Los Angeles tour. This release makes its vinyl debut on red and green colored vinyl with a white label as a tribute to the Mexican flag.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 12,350 copies.

Ramones triple J Live at the Wireless Capitol Theatre, Sydney, Australia, July 8, 1980 — “Ramones: Triple J Live at the Wireless Capitol Theatre, Sydney, Australia, July 8, 1980 is a previously unissued live radio broadcast from the legendary NYC punk rockers Ramones. The famed performance – recorded in Australia during their 1980 End Of The Century tour – contains 23 tracks, many of which are rare songs from the album that did not remain in their sets following this tour.  Pressed on 180g vinyl and strictly limited to 13000 copies worldwide, exclusively for RSD Drops 2021.” Available on July 17th.

St. Paul & The Broken Bones Half The City Live — “I remember the heat that day burning through my JCPenney’s suit that I bought just the day before for our show at Avondale Brewing Company in Birmingham. 100 degree temperature outside in the dead of summer in Alabama is not uncommon. I was pouring sweat alongside people who had just met that day for the first time to play a show under the name St. Paul & The Broken Bones. I hated my name being in the band’s name but who cared at that point, it was just a fling. Now, over 8 years later, we built a career out of it.

During this pandemic, I have gotten awfully nostalgic. For a time, we would travel constantly and shows started blending together. The bar for the best show/best audience was just so high. That endorphin rush was taken for granted. The first moment we had to play a socially distanced show, I knew exactly what we should do. Play a show at Avondale Brewery and do our debut album in full. Something I would never had done if the pandemic had not happened. Mainly because I am a perpetual motion kind of person and don’t like looking back. The beauty though of looking back at the beginning was realizing all the great people that helped us turn a summer fling into an actual career. From TT Management to Single Lock Records to High Road Touring. It was such a beautiful time. Here is the live recording from that show that night. I hope y’all enjoy.

Slightly Stoopid Live At Roberto’s TRI Studios — “Join Slightly Stoopid as they lay down their grooves at Bob Weir’s(Dead & Company) TRI Studios. The band brought along some of their good friends (Karl Denson, Don Carlos, Ivan and Ian Neville of Dumpstaphunk), to perform stripped down and intimate renditions of “Closer To The Sun”, “Wiseman”, “Devil’s Door”, “I Know You Rider (featuring Bob Weir)” and many more. Funny man Tommy Chong co-hosted the session and supplied some of his legendary “wisdom”. Numbered – silver foil – silver and black smoke vinyl.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 2,000 copies.

Steely Dan Two Against Nature — “In 2000, Steely Dan duo Donald Fagen and Walter Becker achieved both commercial and critical success with their long-awaited album Two Against Nature, which was released following a twenty-year hiatus.  The album charted at #6 on the US and Canadian Charts, earned a Platinum certification in the USA, and went on to win four Grammy Awards including the prestigious Album of the Year.  For RSD Drops 2021, Two Against Nature will achieve another first, as it will be released on vinyl for the very first time, skillfully cut by the album’s original mastering engineer Scott Hull.  It will be pressed on audiophile 180g double black vinyl for the discerning Steely Dan fans, and feature an etching on Side 4. Joe Strummer Junco Partner (Acoustic) — “Newly created exclusive 12” picture disc for RSD Drops 2021 features an ultra-rare acoustic home recording of the track “Junco Partner,” a song famously recorded by The Clash.

Side B features a live version of the track recorded at the Brixton Academy in 2001 by Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 3,500 copies.

Toots & The Maytals Funky Kingston — “The music world lost a true pioneer in September 2020 with the passing of Toots Hibbert. His influence on reggae cannot be understated; he was not only a key figure in the development of the genre, he was also among the first to utilize the word itself in a song title which lead to the popularization of the genre.

Funky Kingston features “Pressure Drop”, named by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time. This international hit influenced (and was covered by) The Clash, The Specials, The Selecter and more. To celebrate Toots’ lifetime of accomplishments and achievements Get On Down presents Funky Kingston in a special one-time only turquoise & cream white split colored pressing as part of RSD Drops.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 2,000 copies.

This historic event honored living legend Willie Nelson and featured his greatest hits performed by today’s biggest superstars. Willie Nelson: American Outlaw featured star-studded performances by Willie Nelson, The Avett Brothers, Bobby Bare, Chris Stapleton, Dave Matthews, Emmylou Harris, Eric Church, George Strait, Jack Johnson, Jamey Johnson, Jimmy Buffett, Kris Kristofferson, Lee Ann Womack, Lukas Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Margo Price, Micah Nelson, Nathaniel Rateliff, Norah Jones and The Little Willies, Ray Benson, Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, and Vince Gill.” Available on June 12th, it is limited to 2,000 copies.

Warren Zevon Preludes — “Following Warren Zevon’s death in 2003, his son Jordan Zevon discovered 126 unreleased outtakes and demos in a piano-sized touring case. This discovery would be distilled down to the best of these recordings and eventually released as a 2CD set titled Preludes released on May 1, 2007. When the album was released it featured sixteen unreleased recordings from Zevon’s personal archives, as well as six never-before released songs and a five-part 2000 interview with KGSR’s Jody Denberg.  Now, for the first vinyl release, these will be pressed on beautiful Sky Blue vinyl, this doule LP set features all of the exclusive bonus tracks as well as a beautiful 20-page perfect bound book, all packaged in a hardbound slipcase.  Limited to 3000 units worldwide.” Available on June 12th.
