Todd Snider Releases ‘The Get Together’ Single

69

Todd Snider released a new single, “The Get Together.” The song will appear on the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s upcoming album, First Agnostic Church of Hope And Wonder, set for release on April 26 via Aimless Records / Thirty Tigers.

Snider announced First Agnostic Church of Hope And Wonder in early March — the title pulled from a series of livestreams the singer-songwriter hosted during the pandemic — and shared the single “Sail On, My Friend,” a tribute to Jeff Austin. The album features a number of tributes to musicians and friends of Snider’s who passed away recently including John Prine and Jerry Jeff Walker. The LP”s second single, “Turn Me Loose (I’ll Never Be The Same)” is an homage to Jerry Jeff.

The latest single, “The Get Together” — another title referring to Snider’s pandemic livestream sessions — is, as the name suggests, “a true collaboration,” Snider told American Songwriter. The song, which sees Snider ruminating on his role as an artist, is a co-write with Snider’s friends Mark McClendon, Daryl Sanders and Tom Cook who helped Snider piece the tune together remotely.

“I had been chipping away at that for awhile and had the verse,” Snider said of the new track, “It was something I felt Alan Watts would have said, that notion that if you quit your job to go sit under a tree and become enlightened, the first thing enlightenment will tell you is ‘you need a job.’”

“The Get Together” arrived with an accompanying music video featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the recording process as well as collaborators Robbie Crowell on percussion and Tchad Blake on guitar. Watch it below:
