Goose concluded their two-night run at New Haven’s Westville Music Bowl in their home state of Connecticut on Sunday. The quintet opened up the show with the live debut of “Shenanigan’s Jam” which featured in a March trailer video for Goose’s recently released album Shenanigan’s Nite Club with the band also dressing up as their characters in the video.
After the retro funk of “Shenanigan’s Jam,” Goose — guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, keyboardist/guitarist Peter Anspach, drummer Ben Atkind, bassist Trevor Weekz and percussionist Jeffrey Arevalo — delivered “All I Need,” the opening track on the band’s 2020 studio EP Night Lights. Rick led the band through the song which featured a breezy jam laced with piano from Anspach. Goose continued with “Indian River,” Night Lights’ “Time To Flee” and “Your Ocean.” Goose would bring the first frame to a close with Shenanigan’s single “So Ready.” The previous two shows saw Goose performing their alternate version of the song, “Slow Ready,” which they began in New Hampshire (cut short due to time constraints) and finished on night one in New Haven.
The jam vehicle “Arrow” kicked off the second set and stretched to over 20 minutes before the band headed into The Moody Blues’ classic “Nights In White Satin.” The psychedelic song suits Goose well and the New Haven play marked just the third time the band has performed the number since debuting it in early 2020, as per ElGoose.net. “Rosewood Heart” would complete the seamless, three-song set opening segment, which accounted for most of the second frame. “Bob Don” then came ahead of set-closer “SOS.” Goose would retake the stage to encore with the Mack Rice classic “Mustang Sally” before wrapping up their Westville run with “Butter Rum.”
