Thundercat, Japanese Breakfast, Tinariwen and Chicano Batman are among the acts featured on the initial lineup for the return of LEVITATION to Austin this Halloween Weekend. LEVITATION performances will take place at various Austin venues throughout the city’s downtown Red River Cultural District and East Side October 28 – 31 with a kick off concert slated for October 27.
Members of The Black Angels and friends founded LEVITATION in 2008 as the Austin Psych Fest. The event was rebranded LEVITATION in tribute to Austin’s own The 13th Floor Elevators who reunited for a performance at the 2015 installment to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Last year’s festival was postponed due to the pandemic.
Red Fang, Nothing, Starcrawler, Frankie Rose, Here Lies Man and Enumclaw will play the festival’s kick off party at Empire Control Room & Garage on October 27. Chicano Batman, Crumb, Fuzz, Boy Harsher and Drab Majesty are among the acts performing at LEVITATION events on Thursday, October 28 with The Black Angels, Tinariwen, Black Midi and La Luz just some of the artists aboard for sets on Friday, October 29.
Thundercat, Andy Shauf, Yves Tumor and Kikaguku Moyo top the lineup for Saturday, October 30. LEVITATION closes on Sunday, October 31 with performances from Japanese Breakfast, The Hives, Sasami, Golden Dawk Arkestra and others.
