Watch Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real Perform At Stagecoach Festival 2018

Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real performed at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California on April 29, 2018. Nelson and company delivered an eight-song, career-spanning set that saw the band play newer material that would end up on 2019’s Turn Of The News (Build A Garden) and its companion album, 2020’s Naked Garden , as well as older favorites. In honor of Lukas Nelson appearing on the JamBase Podcast this past week as well as POTR’s new album, A Few Stars Apart (which arrived Friday), the 2018 Stagecoach set is the subject of this week’s Sunday Cinema.

Nelson kicked off the Stagecoach set with a solo performance of the title track from Turn Off The News (Build A Garden), which would not come out for another year. Lukas then prefaced “Entirely Different Stars” by saying that it was inspired by the popular cartoon Rick and Morty. “Entirely Different Stars” would appear on 2020’s Naked Garden, a 15-track compilation featuring songs that didn’t make it on to Turn Off The News and alternate takes. Nelson delivered a fiery guitar solo on the sci-fi country rocker.

Lukas Nelson And Promise Of The Real then turned to material from their current album at the time with “Die Alone” from their 2017 self-titled record which featured a leaping conclusion from Nelson. The band then took it back to their 2010 debut, Promise Of The Real, with a performance of “Four Letter Word” ahead of a pair of songs from the 2016 album, Something Real, in the title track and “(Forget About) Georgia.” Lukas Nelson And Promise Of The Real closed out their 2018 Stagecoach set with the stellar song “Find Yourself,” which featured Nelson delivering a characteristically impassioned performance and also getting the festival crowd involved.
