Jerry Garcia Family & Rex Foundation Announce Daze Between 2021 Programming

89

The Jerry Garcia Family and Rex Foundation will honor the legacy of the late Grateful Dead guitarist with the second annual Daze Between celebration. The series of events recognize the period spanning Garcia’s birthday on August 1 and the anniversary of his death on August 9.

The multi-week tribute to Garcia will once again support the Rex Foundation, the nonprofit organization launched by the Grateful Dead in 1983. This year’s festivities began early with the Daze Between concert performed last weekend by Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre. Daze Between 2021 is sponsored by the cannabis brand Garcia Hand Picked that started last year in honor of Jerry Garcia.

“Community was a big part of the social experiment that was the Grateful Dead, and it is a community that has not only stood the test of time but has remained committed to making the world a better place for everyone,” said Rex Foundation executive director Cameron Sears. “One of the more enduring aspects of how that was accomplished can be found in Rex Foundation. Formed with the notion that when we all work together, that makes a lasting positive social change a reality. We all play a part, and if we continue maintaining that tradition, this community will continue to thrive not just in deed, but also in spirit knowing that we are stronger together. That is what community is all about – and that is what Daze Between is about!”

Daze Between 2021 events include multiple Jerry Day celebrations at MLB games, live concerts by Warren Haynes, Grace Potter, Lettuce, Keller Williams’ Grateful Grass, Melvin Seals & JGB, The Garcia Project, Mikaela Davis and Southern Star, Cris Jacobs, Larry Keel Experience and The Days Between Festival featuring Dark Star Orchestra, among others. Additionally, An Odd Little Place: The Digital Works of Jerry Garcia opens to the public at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, featuring works that are part of a recently announced NFT collection.

This year, Rex Foundation seeks to reach the important milestone of $10,000,000 in grants given to small nonprofit organizations since 1983. The organization supports grassroots efforts in the arts, sciences, education, environment, indigenous culture, and social justice. Donations can be made by texting “DAZE” to (202) 858-1233 or directly at www.dazebetween.com.

Daze Between 2021 will also introduce the Daze of Service initiative to encourage support for local communities. Supporting organizations include Food Runners, Soles4Souls, Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange, Share Food Program, Open Hand, Cradles to Crayons, Food for Lane County, Gather New Haven, Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, and more — including remote opportunities that include Kids In Need Foundation, Music & Memory and WhyHunger.
