Phil Lesh & Friends Featuring Members Of Dawes Kick Off Brooklyn Bowl Nashville Run

74

Phil Lesh made his debut at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville on Thursday night with a Phil Lesh & Friends lineup featuring members of Dawes. The other musicians joining the Grateful Dead bassist in Music City were Lesh’s son, guitarist Grahame Lesh, and vocalist Nicki Bluhm.

Dawes guitarists Taylor Goldsmith and Trevor Menear, drummer Griffin Goldsmith and keyboardist Lee Pardini accompanied the others on stage at the new venue, opening the show with Phil leading the collective through “Cold Rain And Snow.” Meaner took a turn singing lead on the subsequent “Brown-Eyed Women.” Bluhm, who took on primary vocal duties at various points throughout the night, led the band through “Dire Wolf,” ahead of Taylor Goldsmith getting his first of several lead vocal assignments by taking on “Candyman.” Grahame Lesh also got in on the action, fronting the group on “Crazy Fingers.” Taylor’s “Dupree’s Diamond Blues” came before the ensemble closed the set with “I Know You Rider.”

The collective approach was applied to the second set opening “The Wheel,” which transitioned into Phil presenting his Dead original, “Unbroken Chain.” The uninterrupted sequence continued with Bluhm captaining “New Speedway Boogie” before turning over the lead mic to Taylor for the ballad “Stella Blue.” He stayed in that position for “China Cat Sunflower” and “Shakedown Street.” Everyone joined in on the set-ending “Uncle John’s Band.” Bluhm steered the tender Dead classic “Brokedown Palace” for the evening’s encore.

Phil Lesh & Friends return to Brooklyn Bowl Nashville for night two of three in a row. Livestreams are available via FANS. Watch the opening songs from the first and second set of last night’s livestream below:
