The Black Crowes Cover Velvet Underground’s ‘Rock & Roll’ In Burgettstown

88

The Black Crowes debuted a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Rock & Roll” at their concert last night in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. The performance came during the encore of Wednesday’s show at The Pavilion at Star Lake, which was part of the band’s tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their album, Shake Your Money Maker.

Once again, the show began with a complete live rendering of Shake Your Money Maker, with all 10 tracks presented in the same order as the record. The band currently consisting of frontman Chris Robinson, guitarist Rich Robinson, longtime bassist Sven Pipien, guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, keyboardist Joel Robinow and drummer Brian Griffin, along with backing vocalists Mackenzie Adams and Leslie Grant, continued to fill the setlist with other favorites in the Crowes’ catalog.

Tour debuts included “Horsehead” (the first since 2010) and “Black Moon Creeping,” which were surrounded by “No Speak No Slave,” “Go Faster,” “Wiser Time,” “Thorn in My Pride” and the closer “Remedy.” When the band returned for the encore, Chris Robinson introduced the finale as a song by Lou Reed before launching into the Loaded classic “Rock & Roll.”
