Fruition returned to the stage on Friday at Dillon Amphitheater in Dillon, Colorado for their first show in front of an in-person audience since March of 2020. The quintet filled the setlist with originals from throughout their career, debuted a Radiohead cover and was joined by The String Cheese Incident keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth for “Fire.”
The concert, featuring a support set from Mipso, got off to a late start due to a passing storm. However, Fruition still delivered a full show and Mipso’s performance was only cut by five minutes due to the rain, lightning, thunder and hail. After teasing “Meet Me On The Mountain,” Fruition’s first gig in nearly 17 months began with “Labor Of Love,” the title track from the group’s 2016 studio album.
Fruition released two albums just before the pandemic started and both were represented in Dillon. The five-piece played the title track as well as “Forget About You” and “Sweet Hereafter” from Wild As The Night, an LP unveiled in November of 2019. Additionally, Fruition performed “Dawn,” “Where Can I Turn,” “For You” and “At The End Of The Day” off their 2020 album, Broken At The Break Of Day.
Friday’s show also featured a number of beloved classics including “Santa Fe,” “There She Was,” “The Meaning” and “Turn To Dust.” Hollingsworth emerged towards the end of the set to join Kellen Asebroek on keys for live staple “Fire.” Kyle’s guest spot came a few songs after Fruition debuted their cover of Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android.” The encore saw Asebroek, Mimi Naja and Jay Cobb Anderson team up on “At The End Of The Day” with Anderson providing the only instrumental accompaniment on guitar.
The concert marked Fruition’s biggest headlining show to date. Next up for the group is an appearance at this weekend’s Sawtooth Valley Gathering music festival in Stanley, Idaho.
