Since the news earlier this week of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts‘ death, tributes have continued to pour in from across the musical spectrum. From the written words of his colleagues and admirers to onstage remembrances from fellow artists, the outpouring of sentiments for the backbeat of one of the world’s biggest rock bands continues. Jason Isbell has done his part by encoring with a Rolling Stones cover at every show since Watts died.

Prior to Watts’ death, Isbell and his backing band The 400 Unit had already boasted Sticky Fingers track “Sway” in their arsenal, and even played it during their show at Wintrust Field in Schaumburg, IL on August 22nd, two days prior to Watts’ death. During Isbell’s next show at White River State Park in Indianapolis, IN on August 24th—the night Watts died—Isbell offered a double dose of Stones with a double encore of “Moonlight Mile” and “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”. While Isbell has covered “Knocking” numerous times, Tuesday’s show saw his debut of “Moonlight Mile”.

At his most recent show on the 26th at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, MI, Isbell and company offered another Stones debut with “Gimme Shelter”. Also appearing in the encore slot, the song featured backup vocals from opening act Brittney Spencer.
