Ty Segall Releases Surprise New Album ‘Harmonizer’

65

Ty Segall released a surprise album, Harmonizer, digitally today via Drag City with physical formats arriving in October. The new LP is the singer-songwriter’s first solo studio album in two years following 2019’s First Taste.

Segall recorded the aptly named Harmonizer at his newly minted Harmonizer Studios. Ty tapped Drag City labelmate Cooper Crain, of the band Cave, as co-producer. The record sees contributions from members of Segall’s Freedom Band — Ben Boye, Mikal Cronin, Emmett Kelly and Charles Moothart. Denée Segall also co-writes and appears on two tracks.

Harmonizer bursts with transcendent energy as Ty glides smoothly into unexpected territory, right where he likes to find himself,” press materials for the new LP noted. “It’s a synthtastic production redesign that finds Ty dialing up a wealth of tightly-controlled beats, thick keyboard textures, guitar, and endless harmonies. This glossy sound makes for some of Ty’s cleanest songs and starkest ideas to date, bracing him as he revisits the lonely days and loathsome nights of the alienated, grown-up-wrong soul.”
