Widespread Panic Details New Album Of Unreleased 1990 Demos Ft. Page McConnell & More, ‘Miss Kitty’s Lounge’

67

Widespread Panic has announced the coming release of Miss Kitty’s Lounge, a collection of thirty-year-old, previously unreleased studio demos. The collection is set to arrive on digital and vinyl formats in December of this year.

The Miss Kitty’s Lounge recordings were captured at producer/engineer John Keane‘s Athens, GA studio during demo tracking sessions in the winter of 1990. As such, the new collection spotlights the original, five-piece Widespread Panic lineup including John Bell (guitar/vocals), Michael Houser (guitar), Dave Schools (bass), Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz (percussion), and the late Todd Nance (drums). Miss Kitty’s Lounge also features contributions from Keane on guitar, Randall Bramblett on saxophone, and Page McConnell (Phish) on organ.

“They provide an interesting snapshot of where the band was at the time; more stripped down and guitar oriented prior to the addition of a full time keyboard player,” Keane said along with the collection’s announcement.

“This was Widespread Panic un-filtered—or, at least self-filtered—filling in almost every cranny with sound and movement,” John Bell added of the demos included on the new collection.

Fans can order the limited edition Widespread Panic Miss Kitty’s Lounge vinyl via independent record stores.

Widespread Panic recently postponed a string of upcoming shows due to the continued spread of the COVID-19 delta variant. Despite implementing testing/vaccination protocols at a recent run of shows in Asheville, NC, John Bell tested positive soon after the Asheville run, prompting the band to postpone a three-night stint in Austin, TX at the eleventh hour. The band subsequently postponed upcoming shows in Napa, CA and New York, NY.

As the band noted in its announcement of the Napa and New York postponements, “Since returning to live performance, the Band, Crew and Management have gone to great lengths and expense to ensure the safety of every soul in the venue. We are taking this pause to re-enforce our already stringent protocols. Bottom line – the COVID virus is relentless, and it loves an audience. … Widespread Panic is hopeful and grateful for Everyone’s understanding of our concerns during these unprecedented and continuously shifting times.”

With the Beacon run postponed, the next Widespread Panic tour dates on the books are two nights headlining Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, TN in early October.
