Aoife O’Donovan Announces New Album ‘Age Of Apathy’ & Shares Single

90

Singer-songwriter/guitarist Aoife O’Donovan will release a new studio album entitled Age Of Apathy through Yep Roc Records on January 21, 2022. Today, O’Donovan unveiled the album’s lead single, “Phoenix,” along with an accompanying video.

Aoife recorded the 11-track LP at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida with engineer Darren Schneider. O’Donovan collaborated entirely remotely with producer Joe Henry. Remote contributions came from bassist David Piltch and drummer Jay Bellerose as O’Donovan put in long days on-site at Full Sail’s studio to take advantage of the downtime from touring due to the pandemic. Additionally, the album features guest appearances from Allison Russell and Madison Cunningham.

“I remember writing ‘Phoenix’ late at night in my sunroom,” explained O’Donovan of the album’s lead single. “It was in early February of this year — a gorgeous Florida winter night — and I came across the first line of the song, all alone, in an old note on my computer. Late 2020 and early 2021 brought a wave of clarity and inspiration after a very difficult period of creative malaise, and ‘Phoenix’ is truly an ode to my own muse.”

Aoife tapped photographer Omar Cruz to direct the visual for her new single. Watch the “Phoenix” video below:
