Billy Strings Welcomes Andy Hall, Paul Hoffman, & Lindsay Lou At Album Release Concert

63

Billy Strings was joined Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters, Paul Hoffman of Greensky Bluegrass and Lindsay Lou at last night’s concert celebrating the release of Strings’ new studio album Renewal. The show opened a two-night mini-festival at Cottonwood Meadows in Buena Vista, Colorado.

Yesterday’s three-set concert coincided with the release of Renewal and Strings included nine of the album’s 16 songs in Friday’s setlist. Hall was the first guest brought to the stage to join Strings, banjoist Billy Failing, bassist Royal Masat and mandolinist Jarrod Walker. The dobro player came out near the end of the first set to augment a performance of The Infamous Stringdusters’ “No More to Leave You Behind” and also played on “Fireball Mail.”

Hoffman was next to accompany Strings, coming out in the middle of the second set for an extensive sit-in that began with “Gold Rush” followed by the collective covering “Paul And Silas.” The mandolin player led a run through GSBG’s “Reverend” and remained onstage for the Renewal track that he co-wrote with Strings, “In The Morning Light.”

Lou’s sit-in came during the third and final set of the evening. Brought out midway through the set, Lou added vocals to the debut performance of the Renewal song “Nothing’s Working.” Lou stuck around for subsequent covers of “Where Is My Sailor Boy,” Jefferson Airplane’s psychedelic classic “White Rabbit” (which Strings had not covered before) and Bill Monroe’s “I’m Going Back To Old Kentucky.”

Strings continues his Renewal release celebration tonight with another show at The Lawn. A livestream is available via FANS. Watch video highlights of Friday’s Billy Strings concert below:
