Damon Albarn Releases ‘Royal Morning Blue’ Single

83

Damon Albarn today put out “Royal Morning Blue,” a single from his new solo album The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows. The Gorillaz and Blur frontman also shared a live “Royal Morning Blue” performance video.

The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows is set for release through Transgressive Records on November 12. Damon initally aimed to put out the material crafted while visiting Iceland as a symphonic piece. Instead, he used the time locked down during the pandemic over the last year to develop the music into an 11-track album.

Albarn wrote and recorded “Royal Mountain Blue” in Iceland. The song from Damon’s first solo effort since 2014’s Everyday Roberts references a beautiful transition Albarn saw from his piano while starring at the Icelandic landscape. “That’s why the song opens with ‘Rain turning into snow,’ because it’s that moment, that feeling,” the musician said. “In all the darkness that we have experienced, that was such a beautiful, positive thing.”
