Jack White celebrated the opening of Third Man Records London on Saturday with a pair of impromptu performances, including a balcony set. This marks the first U.K. record store for the White Stripes frontman.

The weekend grand opening first saw White perform a surprise set from the outlet’s “Blue Basement” while sporting a fitting blue hairdo. The basement venue was designed by White himself and hosted a seven-song performance of White Stripes tracks including “Hello Operator”, “Why Can’t You Be Nicer To Me”, and “Icky Thump” as well as solo compositions “Sixteen Candles”, “What’s Done Is Done”, “Love Interruption”, and “I Cut Like A Buffalo” from the Dead Weather catalog.

As if the basement set wasn’t enough, White and his bandmates then relocated to a neighboring balcony—owned by Damian Hurst—to perform another surprise set. More White Stripes classics dotted the set including “Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground”, “We’re Going To Be Friends”, and the set-closing “Seven Nation Army”, as well as the title track to his 2014 studio album Lazaretto, and The Raconteurs‘ “Steady As She Goes”.

In addition to the 60-person basement venue, Third Man Records London at 1 Marshall St in Carnaby sports two floors of retail music, a 1950s recording booth, a book vending machine, and all sorts of oddities in a musical Charlie And The Chocolate Factory style wonderland.

“London feels really personal to me and to Jack,” Third Man co-founder and co-owner Ben Swank told Rolling Stone last week. “It’s where the White Stripes really first were appreciated in a wider way. They broke over here first. I lived here for a little while and we just love this city… It’s always been kind of understood that if we did a third location, this would make the most sense. It’s just felt very personal to [Jack] and I think he wanted to do something to show that respect to the city.”
