On Saturday night, following Umphrey’s McGee‘s performance in Indianapolis, bassist Ryan Stasik kept the party going at The Vogue Theatre with his ’80s-inspired project, Doom Flamingo.
The late-night performance capped a busy weekend for the Charleston, SC sextet, which had already performed at Resonance Music & Arts Festival at Marvin’s Mountaintop in Masontown, WV on Friday.
The group, comprised of Stasik, vocalist Kanika Moore, The sextet—which features Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik alongside vocalist Kanika Moore, guitarist Thomas Kenney, saxophonist Mike Quinn, keyboardist Ross Bogan, and drummer Stu White—worked through material from recent companion EPs Doom and Flamingo. As the EP titles suggest, this is a band that walks the line between seemingly opposing styles. While the former presents a darker, synth-wave collection inspired by the thematics of “mysterious and macabre” literature and cinema, the latter explores the nostalgic sounds of guilty-pleasure ’80s staples with an emphasis on hedonistic fun—the two characteristic sides of the Doom Flamingo coin.
