The Black Crowes Welcome Peter Wolf In Mansfield

185

The Black Crowes brought out Peter Wolf for a pair of The J. Geils Band classics last night at their show outside Boston. The collaboration took place during The Crowes concert at Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

The evening began with The Black Crowes performing their album Shake Your Money Maker in its entirety, as they have done throughout the tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of its release. Frontman Chris Robinson and his brother, guitarist Rich Robinson, next led their bandmates through “No Speak No Slave” off 1992’s The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion.

Chris then introduced “rock ‘n’ roll royalty” Peter Wolf and the local legend emerged to sing lead on The J. Geils Band’s “Cry One More Time.” Wolf stuck around for a subsequent performance of “Lookin’ For A Love,” which was originally a hit for The Valentinos, and was covered by The J. Geils Band and along with “Cry One More Time,” appeared on the Massachusetts-based band’s 1971 sophomore LP, The Morning After.

After Wolf’s sit-in, the set concluded with “Wiser Time,” “Thorn in My Pride” and “Remedy.” The encore was a rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (but I Like It).” The Black Crowes Present: Shake Your Money Maker Tour continues tomorrow in Wantagh, New York.
