The Highwomen Reunite At BottleRock

82

The Highwomen reunited to perform a last-minute headlining set on Friday (September 3) at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival in Napa, California. Chris Stapleton was forced to cancel his headlining appearance “due to a non-COVID related illness,” which came after he replaced original headliner Stevie Nicks who withdrew from her tour dates due to COVID-19 concerns.

Two of the members of The Highwomen — Maren Morris and Brandi Carlile — were on Friday’s BottleRock lineup. They were joined by their bandmate Natalie Hemby, as well as Brittney Spencer who filled in for an absent Amanda Shires while she recovers from a recent emergency surgery. Last October, Spencer shared her recording of a cover of The Highwomen song “Crowded Table” that drew positive responses from Morris and Shires, with each inviting her to perform with the supergroup.

Morris, Hemby, Spencer and Carlile were backed by members of Morris and Carlile’s bands. The setlist consisted of 10 songs from their self-titled debut album, which yesterday marked two years since its release. The last-minute performance ended with a nod to Nicks by way of a cover of “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac.
