Monday saw Ty Segall share a new music video for the title track to his latest solo effort, Harmonizer. This video release came just two days after Segall performed with Freedom Band at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
The video for “Harmonizer” was directed by Segall and his wife Denée, who also appears throughout the album on tracks “Feel Good” and “Waxman”. Mr. and Mrs. Segall also appeared together in the previously released video for “Feel Good”.
Just as Segall surprise-released Harmonizer last month, so too did the video for the album’s title track fall out of the sky. With the Segalls at the helm, the video takes on an Andy Warhol-ian format as quick cuts of stationary objects slowly come to harmonize with the track, right around the point Segall sings the titular line. The synth-heavy minimalism of Segall’s first solo album in two years finds an unlikely match in the avant-garde surrealism of the video, creating an opaque product completely in line with the multi-instrumentalist’s body of work.
Watch the new music video for “Harmonizer” from Ty Segall below, as well as some clips of him performing alongside Freedom Band at Pitchfork Music Festival on Saturday. Ty Segall & Freedom Band are currently on tour, with the ensemble about to kick off a two-night run at Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles beginning tonight, September 13th.
