Coachella Backtracks, Says 2022 Punters Won’t Need To Be Vaccinated

Having previously stated that punters would need to be fully vaccinated in order to attend the 2022 festival, Coachella organisers have now changed their minds.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is set to return to Indio, California in April 2022. It’ll run over two weekends: 15th-17th April and 22nd-24th April.

The health policy on the website of event promoter Goldenvoice currently states: “We will be requiring all attendees and staff to provide proof of full vaccination for entry into our owned & operated venues unless medically or religiously exempt. ‘Full vaccination’ means 14 days or more following the final dose of a US FDA approved or WHO recognized vaccine against COVID-19.”

However, it seems they’ve now adjusted the policy for Coachella. According to Coachella’s Instagram story, the health policy will now allow for “Negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event OR Proof of full vaccination.”

The Instagram post explains that the change comes after “seeing first-hand the low transmission data and successful implementation of safety protocols at our other festivals this past month.”

Coachella 2022 will mark a return to operations after multiple Covid-related cancellations and postponements. The 2020 event was rescheduled from April to October before being cancelled outright in June. The 2021 event met the same fate when organisers pulled the plug in January this year. Festival passes for 2022 are completely sold out.
