Fender To Re-Produce Kurt Cobain’s Iconic Jag-Stang Guitar To Mark ‘Nevermind”s 30th Anniversary

Fender are doing an exclusive re-issue of Kurt Cobain‘s iconic Jag-Stang guitar in commemoration of Nirvana‘s Nevermind, which recently turned 30.

The guitar was originally designed by Cobain, and as the name suggests, he took elements from both the Fender Jaguar and the Fender Mustang that he liked in order to create the hybrid instrument.

Cobain worked with Fender in 1993 to create the guitar before famously performing with it on the band’s In Utero tour just prior to his passing in April 1994.

The new re-issue captures all of those same elements, including features such as the slider pickup, which allowed the player to dial in four distinct in or out of phase sounds.

It comes in both Fiesta Red and Sonic Blue, in both left and right handed styles.

“When we took a look at the sketches Kurt Cobain had drawn up for his dream guitar, we were impressed by how intricate his design was,” said Justin Norvell, EVP of Fender Products in a statement.

“We honoured the original model – all the specs on the new Jag Stang are as they were. Nothing new was done to it, we really wanted to keep it aligned with Kurt’s vision.

“Through our long-standing relationship with the Kurt Cobain Estate, we always knew we wanted to bring his vision to life. It’s been an immense honour to help bring his idea to fruition and revive this model.”

The model is priced at $2299 AUD and can be picked up via the Fender website.
