PREMIERE: Lawson Hull Unites With Nashville Artist Old Sea Brigade On ‘Sweetheart’

Newcastle indie pop songwriter Lawson Hull will release his new single, ‘Sweetheart’, this Friday, 15th October. We’re premiering here on Music Feeds.

‘Sweetheart’ is a collaboration between Hull and Nashville-based songwriter and producer, Ben Cramer, aka Old Sea Brigade. Having never met before, the pair connected via video conference.

“’Sweetheart’ is the result of my first ever video call collaboration,” says Hull. “It was awkward and clunky, as you’d imagine, but in all the right ways. Since you can’t hear and connect as well as you’d like, you’re forced to listen more and workshop ideas with some intention.”

It was a true collaboration, with Cramer and Owen Lewis working on the instrumentation in Nashville and Hull tracking the vocals in Australia. “They’re a power couple and absolutely nailed the sound that fit with mine,” says Hull of working with Cramer and Lewis.

The song tells a story of unrequited love, accompanied by arpeggiated guitar lines and hovering string arrangements. “We came up with a picture of a guy who’s clinging to what might’ve been a good relationship; at least he thought it had potential,” said Hull.

‘Sweetheart’ follows Hull’s recent EP, Hangin’ Out With Cowboys, which came out in August 2021 via Nettwerk Music Group. Take a listen to the new single ahead of its official release this Friday.
