On Thursday night, veteran rapper Talib Kweli took over the Brooklyn Bowl stage with a full band for his first of two live hip-hop blowouts this week.

After an opening set by multi-tasking rapper/producer/multi-instrumentalist/one-man band Dudley Music, Kweli hit the stage for a tour through both his own repertoire and the works of the greats, with artists like J Dilla and the Fugees getting love from the eclectic Brooklyn MC.

No matter what material was being played at any given moment, the ensemble—packed with live hip-hop luminaries like bassist Brady Watts (Bass & Bars) and trumpeter Maurice “Mobetta” Brown (Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals)—ensured that the party never stopped throughout the night.
