Drake has shared a statement on Instagram, expressing grief at heartbreak in response to the mass casualty event at Astroworld over the weekend.
Travis Scott has made multiple public statements in the days since eight people died and hundreds were injured at the rapper’s Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas. However, Drake, who was onstage with Scott for the climax of his 75-minute performance, has stayed quiet.
Until now, that is, with Drake, one of the world’s top-paid musicians, releasing a statement in which he says his “heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering.” Posted to Instagram on Monday, 8th November (US time), Drake begins, “I’ve spent the past few days trying to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy.”
He goes on: “I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself. My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can. May God be with you all.”

In recent days, a lawsuit was filed against Travis Scott and Drake for “inciting mayhem”; 23-year-old Kristian Paredes and Texas personal injury attorneys, Thomas J Henry Law, are behind the suit. Scott has also said he’ll cover funeral costs for the victims’ families, refund every ticket, and provide a month of free therapy for those impacted by the Astroworld events (via BetterHelp.)
