Keyboardist Peter Levin Undergoes Successful Heart Transplant Surgery

58

Acclaimed keyboardist Peter Levin was recently released from the hospital after coming through emergency heart transplant surgery. Yesterday, Levin posted on social media about his health issues and revealed he underwent the procedure, which he described as a “huge success,” on November 7.

Peter Levin was a key member of the final Gregg Allman Band lineup. Levin’s long and illustrious resume also includes work with Amanda Shires, Blind Boys Of Alabama, Jason Isbell, God Street Wine, Marcus King and numerous others. A GoFundMe has been established to help cover Levin’s medical bills.

The musician was hospitalized and underwent the procedure at Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Levin’s emotional post features his words accompanying a video in which he rings a bell installed on a plaque at the facility that transplant patients ring as they depart the hospital. Staffers give Levin a huge round of ovation throughout the clip.

Read Peter Levin’s note below:

To all my friends and family that have already reached out with prayers and good vibes, I thank you immensely.

For those of you that don’t know, on Nov 7th I had to undergo an emergency heart transplant. After being intubated for days and almost leaving this earth twice, the amazing folks at Vanderbilt found me a good heart within 2 days of green lighting the operation. The operation was a big success and my recovery has been way ahead of the curve. I have been home for a few days now and getting stronger every day, with the help of my beautiful and caring wife, Robyn.

I can not express the feelings of what it means to have been given a second lease on life. It is both powerful and overwhelming, but in a good way. Each day above ground is truly a blessing, and in my case, a true miracle. So treasure them and those around you as best u can.

Thank you to ALL the folks at Vanderbilt Hospital on the transplant team, the nursing staff, and especially Dr. Jordan Hoffman, who performed my operation.

Life is a beautiful thing and I feel like the luckiest man on earth. Much love to you all. ❤
