Dave Grohl, Greg Kurstin Close ‘Hanukkah Sessions’ With Tribute To KISS [Watch]

Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin brought their second annual Hanukkah Sessions to a close on Sunday night, channeling their inner KISS with a cover of “Rock And Roll All Nite”. This eighth and final installment to the Hanukkah Sessions follows renditions of songs by Lisa LoebRamonesBarry ManilowVan HalenAmy WinehouseBilly Joel, and The Clash.

Capturing the essence of the glam metal pioneers, the two-piece pumped in a little crowd noise to give this cover the juice it needed. Each taking the role of a co-writer, Grohl arrived with his face painted to match the song’s lead vocalist, Gene Simmons, while Kurstin took the role of “The Starchild,” Paul Stanley. The deep, growling vocals Grohl produced for the Lisa Loeb cover on night one helped him prepare for this cut, as Simmons normally sings in a much lower register than Grohl.

The duo seemed to play the cover by the book, even as a mistake in the bridge section invoked auditory displeasure from Grohl. As the video came to an end with Grohl and Kurstin driving around town, the former exclaimed, “I’m kind of sad that we’re not doing any more.”

“Ladies and gentlemen….we made it. Night 8!” the two musicians noted in the video’s description. “And what better way to celebrate another year of Hanukkah Sessions than Chaim Witz and Stanley Eisen….two young lads from Queens that set the world (and thousands of stages) on FIRE as Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS!!!”
