Black Pumas posted a live performance video of frontman Eric Burton covering Otis Redding’s classic “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay.” The footage was shared on the anniversary of Redding’s tragic death in 1967.

Redding was just 26-years-old when he died on December 10, 1967, when the plane he was traveling in crashed near Madison, Wisconsin. The tragic accident also took the lives of members of The Bar-Kays — Ronnie Caldwell, Carl Cunningham, Phalon Jones and Jimmy King — as well as their crew member Matthew Kelly and the plane’s pilot, Richard Fraser.

Despite his all-too-short career, Redding — who wrote the posthumously released “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay” — recorded such memorable songs as “Respect,” “These Arms of Mine,” “Try a Little Tenderness,” “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” “Mr. Pitiful,” “That’s How Strong My Love Is” and “Pain In My Heart,” among others.

“Otis Redding is one of my live performance heroes, especially for his vocal tone and general stage presence,” Burton said. “‘(Sittin’ On) the Dock of The Bay’ to me boasts his exceptional gifts as both an artist and songwriter.”
