Hottest 100 Voting Has Closed And The Wiggles Remain Favourites For #1

93

Triple j’s Hottest 100 kicks off at midday this Saturday, 22nd January. With voting now closed, the smart money is on The Wiggles’ to take out first place.

100 Warm Tunas, a website devoted to predicting each year’s Hottest 100 finalists, has The Wiggles’ cover of Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant’ placed at number one with 19% of the vote. Gang of Youths’ ‘the angel of 8th ave.’ is in second place with 16% of the vote.

100 Warm Tunas was conceived by Sydney-based software engineer, Nick Whyte, who correctly predicted Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Wave’ would win last year’s Hottest 100. Since launching in 2016, 100 Warm Tunas has been right about the countdown’s number one song 67% of the time.

If 100 Warm Tunas’ predictions prove true, ‘Our Paradise’ by Gerringong surf rockers The Terrys will open the countdown at number 100. However, although voting has finished, 100 Warm Tunas will continue to collect votes up until Saturday.

As of today (18th January) the projected list puts Barkaa’s ‘King Brown’ at #75, Peking Duk’s ‘Chemicals’ at #50, and The Wombats’ ‘If You Ever Leave, I’m Coming With You’ at #25. The top 20 is dominated by Australian acts including RÜFÜS DU SOL, King Stingray, Lime Cordiale (& Idris Elba), The Jungle Giants, Ball Park Music, Amyl And The Sniffers, Spacey Jane, The Kid LAROI (& Justin Bieber), Gang of Youths and The Wiggles.
