Railroad Earth Debuts New Song ‘Blues Highway’ At The Caverns

Railroad Earth headed down into The Caverns in Pelham, Tennesse on Saturday. The jamgrass outfit unveiled a new song, “Blues Highway,” set to appear on their upcoming album, All For The Song, due out on April 22.

RRE got things underway with the stellar classic “Bird In A House,” the title track to their landmark 2002 album, ahead of pairings of “Dance Around Molly” and “Dandelion Wine” as well as “Been Down That Road” and “The Cuckoo.” Next, “Lovin’ You” and “When The Sun Gets In Your Blood” proceeded “Elko” followed by the instrumental “Stillwater Getaway,” off the band’s 2001 debut album The Black Bear Sessions. A cover of the Neil Young classic “Powderfinger” closed out the set.

Frontman Todd Sheaffer and RRE presented new song “Blues Highway” to launch the second set. The road tune boasts an appropriate chug-a-lug feel and a descending instrumental middle section. The outro jam featured some smokin’ piano work from Matt Slocum before Tim Carbone took over on fiddle.

“Farewell To Isinglass” then led into a 12-minute rendition of the title track from the band’s 2017 EP, Captain Nowhere. Bird In A House opening track “Drag Him Down” came next ahead of a paring of “Potter’s Field” and “Old Man and the Land” followed by “RV.” RRE then coupled “Where Songs Begin” with a substantial “12 Wolves” and kept up the exploration on a +15-minute “Seven Story Mountain” to close the second frame. Railroad Earth returned to encore with “Peace On Earth.”
