The ‘Thrillsong’ Supergroup Debuts To Highlight Hypocrisy Of NSW’s Latest COVID Restrictions

By now, you may have seen the videos of Hillsong’s music festival youth event taking place in Newcastle.

The megachurch’s ‘Wildlife Summer Camp’, which going off this trailer, looks pretty much like your run of the mill live music event, has set many in the music industry off and rightly so.

Fresh off the back of the NSW Government’s statewide ban of singing and dancing indoors at ‘a hospitality venue, entertainment facility, nightclub, or major recreation facility’, a brand new supergroup of Australian musicians have made its debut: Thrillsong.

Debuting tonight, a whole stack of your favourite artists including the below have banded together to call out the hypocrisy of the NSW Government’s recent ban.

Alex The Astronaut, Annie Hamilton, Art vs. Science, CC:DISCO!, Confidence Man, Dune Rats, Hatchie, Illy, Jack River, The Jungle Giants, KLP, Lime Cordiale, Montaigne, Odette, Peking Duk, Set Mo, Stace Cadet, Sycco, Thandi Phoenix and What So Not.

Per their press release, “they’re ready to rock your congregation or roll your wedding as under NSW’s current Public Health Orders these are the only places where audiences can legally sing and dance.”

With tens of thousands new COVID cases being reported in NSW daily, music events and festivals are facing down cancellations once more. For many, this means a loss of income they already have largely been without since 2020. So, to toe the official line as much as possible, Thrillsong are here to play your next religious service where needed.

“We firmly support measures to protect our fans and communities and to safeguard our health care workers, we simply ask that if rules are made, they apply to everyone equally.” the supergroup said. “We need to be in this together.”

Festivals in other areas of the country have been announcing reschedules and cancellations this week including UNIFY, Grapevine and the Adelaide leg of Full Tilt.
